| Petoskey Stone is a variety of Calcite. It was formed by the fossilization of ancient coral. It grew in the shallow water that covered the state during the Devonian period some 350 million years ago. Petoskey Stones are found only on the north beaches of Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. |
